SUONTAKA

This sword is closely inspired by a late viking age sword from Suontaka, Finnland probably dated to the 11th century and was found in a woman's grave that included another sword and other rich goods.

The patterns on the hilt is made in the Urnes style with multiple intertwined beasts.

The hilt is cast in bronze, but are hollow, as the original so even though the pieces are fairly large, the sword is lively in the hand and not heavy at all.

The sword is blunt (1.5-2mm edge) and meant for re-enactment fighting.

You can see more pictures of the original here.
